1909-1990

Services for Swanetta Haefner, 81, Aplington, who died, Tuesday, Oct. 30, 1990 at the Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington, were held Friday, Nov. 2, 1 p.m. at the Schwartz-Engelkes Funeral Chapel in Aplington Rev. Donald Patel officiated.

Casket bearers were Ralph Gast, Dale Gerdes, Ron Druvenga, Paul Sealman, Merle Uhlenhopp and Larry Koppedryer.

Burial was at the Ell Township in Klemme with Schwartz-Engelkes Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Swanetta Haefner, the daughter of Henry and Lena Brinkman Walters, was born September 18, 1909 in Aplington. She attended Aplington Schools.

November 14, 1931, she married Burnette Haefner in Allison. They lived in Klemme following their marriage. Burnette died in May of 1938. Swanetta worked in the nursing home in Garner and later managed the Klemme Golf Course for eight years. She retired in 1969.

She was an active member of the Klemme Methodist Church, Ladies Church Circle and a member of the Grandmothers Club.

She is survived by her son and wife, Dennis and Judy Haefner of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Jan Patterson of Arlington, TX, Kirk Haefner of Minneapolis, MN, and Jason Hefner of Cedar Rapids; one great-granddaughter, Amanda Patterson; five sisters, Mrs. Henry (Lela) Uhlenhopp, Mrs. Evelyn DeVries, Mrs. Doris Druvenga, Mrs. Harold (Wilma) Reinicke and Mrs. Merna Koppedreyer, all of Aplington; and one brother, Henry Walters of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burnette; her parents; an infant daughter; three brothers. Walter, George and Richard Walters; and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Sealman.
