GARNER — Carl W. Bohn, 92, died Saturday (Feb. 20, 1999) at Concord Care Center, Garner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church, Garner, with the Rev. Kay Hooper officiating. Interment will be in Concord Township Cemetery, Garner.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner, with a Masonic service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church Wednesday.

Carl William Bohn, the son of Edward J. And Augusta (Boehnke) Bohn, was born May 26, 1906, on a farm northeast of Ventura. He attended Garner High School and the Hohenschuh Carpenter College of Embalming in Des Moines, graduating in 1929.

On May 26, 1930, he was married to Meta M. Lemke in Des Moines. He began working for Rex Shannon, owner and operator of the Shannon Funeral Home and Furniture Store in Garner, in 1929 and purchased the business in 1933. Carl and Meta operated the Bohn Funeral Home from 1933 until their retirement in 1976.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church where he had served on numerous committees and boards. He was also a member of Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Bethel Lodge No. 319, Scottish Rite, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and the Elks Lodge No. 375. He was active in his professional organizations including the Iowa Funeral Directors Association, serving as past president of District No. 8 and the board of governors and the National Funeral Directors Association. In 1979 Carl received a 50-year certificate from the IFDA.

He is survived by his wife, Meta M. Bohn, Garner; a daughter, Elizabeth L. Tompkins and her husband, Claire, Garner; a son, Richard G. Bohn and his wife, Karen, Duncanville, Texas; eight grandchildren, Julie Bahlmann and her husband, Richard, Jay Tompkins, Steven Bohn and his wife, Jacki, and their son, Jackson, Alan Bohn and his wife, Pamela, Richard E. Bohn and his wife, Sue, and his daughter, Jeni, Michael Bohn and his wife, Nancy, and their children, Brandon, Aaron and Karissa, Christina Chapman and her husband, Todd, and their children, and Ted Bohn; and a special family member, Missy Bohn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alvina Hollatz; and a brother, Rudolph J. Bohn.
