Set Rites For Laura Wood Friday
Clear Lake - Funeral services for Mrs. C. R. Wood, 80, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Wilcox Funeral Home. The Rev. Arthur Krebs, pastor of the Congregational Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Britt.
Mrs Wood died Tuesday in a Minneapolis hospital. She was cared for at a nursing home in Ossco, Minn., after giving up her home in Clear Lake last January.
Laura May Wood was born June 6, 1881, at Decorah, the daughter of Thomas and Ida Ingraham Duff. The family moved to Britt where she was graduated from high school and afterward attended the University of Iowa for two years. She taught school for several years until she was married to Charles Rufus Wood in 1911 at Britt.
They moved to Garner, staying there until 1918. In 1919 they moved to Clear Lake where Wood served as city engineer for a number of years.
In 1939 they moved to Milwaukee remaining there until 1945, then moving back to Clear Lake. Her husband preceded her in death in 1957. A son, George, also died during World War II. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and Women's Fellowship.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Wood, Minneapolis, and Charles Rufus Jr., Beaver, Okla., who with their wives arrived for the funeral. Two of the
six grandchildren, Linnie and Florabeth Wood, Minneapolis, also arrived for the funeral.source: Mason City Globe Gazette 24 Aug 1961 page 28
