Ben Schauf rites held Monday

Funeral services for retired area farmer, Ben Schauf, were held Monday morning at the United Methodist church. The Rev. James Louk officiated.

Mrs. Franklin Bienert was organist. Casket bearers were Bruce Hanna, Donald Hanna, Russell Helm, Virgil Helm, Kenneth Riekena and Kenneth Robinson. Burial was Madison Township cemetery with the Petersen Funeral home handling the arrangements.

Schauf, 82, died unexpectedly at his home ,in Forest City Friday [12 Jun 1981].

Ben Schauf, the son of Henry and Minnie Schauf, was born Oct. 18, 1898, near "Waukon. When he was a small child, he came with his parents to a farm in Winnebago County. Schauf attended rural school in Linden township and then married Kathryn Helm Dec. 29, 1927, in Woden.

The couple farmed in Winnebago county until 1944 when they moved to a farm near Northwood. In 1966 they retired from farming and moved to their present home in Forest City.

Schauf was a member of the Kum Along Club in Forest City.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; a son, Harvey Schauf of Mason City; a brother, Albert Schauf of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and two sisters, Mrs. Laura Robinson of Forest City and Mrs. Elsie Helm of Woden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Elmer, and two sisters, Ann Hanna and Helen Hanna.
