Charles Hines found dead in Mason City

Former Forest City resident, Charles L Hines, 45, was found dead on a Mason City street early Saturday [17 Aug 1975]

Mason City police, who are continuing the investigation, report that he was apparently the victim of an assault and died after being struck on the head with a blunt instrument. Cause of death was listed as internal hemorrhaging.

At the time of his death, Mr. Hines was residing in Mason City.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Olson-Petersen Funeral Home in Forest City, with the Rev. Kermit Dancy officiating.

Donald Clauson served as organist and vocal music was provided by Mrs. Raymond Turner.

Casket bearers were William Hines, David Hines, Milton Stout, Leon Behrends, Larry Torkelson and Richard Torkelson. Interment was at the Madison cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by Forest City American Legion Post No. 121.

Charles LeRoy Hines was bom March 27, 1930 at Thompson, where he also received his education. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served two enlistments over a period of six years. While in the service, he received the Presidental Unit Citation with one star, Korean service medal with three stars, the United Nations service medal and a China service medal.

He is survived by five children, all of Forest City—daughters Kimberly, 18; and Zoe, 12, and sons, Patrick, 17, Michael, 16, and James, 14. He is also survived by sisters, Mrs. Milton (Arlene) Stout, Albert Lea; Mrs. Wayne (Rosemary) Gelner, Mason City; Mrs. Wilbur (Olive) Dalluce of Mason City, and Mrs. Curtis ; (Patricia) Andrepont of Eunice, la., and brothers William of Forest City and Donald and Robert of Mason City.
