Retired city employee died unexpectedly

Retired Forest City street department supervisor, Harold G. Hoeft, 71, died unexpectedly Friday [12 Jun 1981]. Hoeft was stricken at his home and was dead on arrival at Forest City hospital.

Harold G. Hoeft, the son of Fred and Emma Jass Hoeft, was born Jan. 9, 1910, at Garner. He was baptized and confirmed at the Synod Lutheran church. When he was a small child, he moved with his parents to Minnesota where he began his education. Hoeft later finished his schooling after moving to Forest City.

As a young man Hoeft started his own gravel hauling business. He was employed by the city of Forest City with the street department for approximately 25 years. Hoeft retired as supervisor of the department in 1975. He continued to work for the city on a part-time basis until the fall of 1980.

Hoeft married Izora Schultz June 30, 1931, at the Congregational church in Mason City. They were to have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in two weeks.

Survivors include his wife, Izora; six children, Mrs. Lester (Delores) Welsh of Mason City, Mrs. Lewis (Beverly) Mayland of Britt, Dennis Hoeft and Randy Hoeft of Forest City, Mark Hoeft and James Hoeft of Leland; a brother, Harland Hoeft of Aurora, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Stella Nelson and Mrs. Royden (Arlene) Charlson of Aurora, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Shirley Mae, a brother, Victor Hoeft, and two sisters, Doris Schultz and Nora Larson.

Funeral services for Mr. Hoeft were held Monday afternoon at United Methodist church. The Rev. James Louk officiated.

Mrs. Robert Goranson was soloist and Mrs. Franklin Bienert, organist. Honorary pall bearers were Harvey E. Harms, Forest Olson, Robert Pletcher and Bill Thompson. Casket bearers were Donald Faber, Everett Hanson, Ronald L. Hanson, Wayne Hollatz, David Nolton and Wendell Riherd. Burial was in Madison Township cemetery with the Petersen Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
