George W. Hartzell, Jr. - March 4, 1889 – April 6, 1964

Funeral services for George Washington Hartzell, Jr. were held in the Leyson Funeral Chapel at Milford, Thursday, April 9, at 10 in the morning. Services were also held that afternoon in the Methodist Church at Britt. The Rev. Robert N. Ruleman officiated at the Milford services and the Rev. Warren Paige conducted the services at Britt.

Pallbearers were Vern Gast, Robert Hartzell, Dale Hartzell, Ted Hartzell, Bernie Pommering, and Stanley Ludeke. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Britt.

Mr. Hartzell died Monday, April 6, in the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital following a lingering illness.

The son of, Mr George and Lydia Hartzell, he was born at Cedar Falls on March 4, 1889.

Mr. Hartzell and his wife, Ethel, were married in the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Stauffer, in Britt on November 19, 1906. The young couple established their first home in Britt where they farmed until moving to Spirit Lake in 1920. Nine years later they moved to Milford. Later they moved to Michigan and then to Des Moines and returned to Milford in June of 1956, when they purchased a home and continued to live there.

Survivors include his widow, three sons, Loren and Clifford of Rockford, Michigan, Corwin of Rockford, Illinois, a daughter, Mrs. Orville Rickman of Arnolds Park; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence of Britt, Ben of Dows and Harry of Pocotone, Illinois and three sisters, Mrs. Ralph Ludeke, Clear Lake, Mrs. Charles Van Zanten, Shelby, Michigan and Mrs. Helen Stille of Klemme.
