William C. Velau, Jr., 69, of rural Klemme, died on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 16, at the United Methodist Church in Klemme with the Rev. Paddy Druhl officiating. Music was provided by organist, Madelyn Priebe who accompanied soloist, Lance Arnold and congregational hymns. Usher was Raymond Schoenwetter.

Honorary bearers were Pvt. Bryan Tull and Leah Reinert. Casket bearers were Lonnie Schmidt, Gary Tull, Adam Schmidt, Mark Reinert, Wayne Stahl and Kevin Stahl. Burial was in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme. The Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner was in charge of the arrangements.

William Christian Velau, Jr., the son of William and Lydia (Herwald) Velau, was born on October 4, 1936, on the family farm west of Klemme. He attended the rural schools of Liberty Township until the eighth grade and graduated from the Klemme High School in 1953.

On June 30, 1956, he married Janet Stahl at the Methodist parsonage in Klemme. They made their home on the family farm west of Klemme where Bill farmed for 52 years before retiring.

Bill was a do-it-yourself type of man spending many hours in his shop tinkering. He enjoyed flying airplanes, motorcycles, antique cars, hunting, gun collecting and many other hobbies.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Klemme.

Bill is survived by his wife, Janet, of Klemme; four children, Christine Schmidt and her husband, Lonnie of Klemme, Marlene Velau of Klemme, Eileen
Tull and her husband, Gary of Humboldt and Sam Velau of Klemme; three grandchildren, Leah Reinert and her husband, Mark, Adam Schmidt and Pvt. Bryan Tull; a sister, Kathryn Alden of Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Sgt. Gregory Tull; and a sister, Eva Fatland.
