Lyle Elmer Ludeke, of Standardsville, VA, passed away Monday, January 24, 2005.

Born September 8, 1920 in Hancock County, Iowa, he was the son of the late Elmer H. and Roma Kleeman Ludeke.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Swan Hitchcock and Merle Lloyd; as well as two sons, Neil and James.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rhoda G. "Jane" Madsen Ludeke; his brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Marie of Pecatonica, Ill; six sons, Steven and wife, Barbara of Knoxville TN, Martin of Standardsville VA, Scott of Charlottesville VA, Stuart and wife Linda of Hanover Cty VA, Jack of New Kent Cty VA, and Jeff and wife Beth of Hanover Cty VA; and a daughter-in-law, Jenny of Chesterfield Cty VA. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Debora, Heather, Sarah, Laura, Mark, Brett, Erica, Joshua, Meagan, and Krista; as well as four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Lyle was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Air Force serving as a navigator during WWII. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1949 with a B.S. in Forestry. After moving to Virginia, he worked for Dominion Resources for 28 years.

Interment in a national cemetery will be at a later date. Donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
