Dean E. Weiland, 65, of Britt passed away Monday, May 19, 2003, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Dean Earl Weiland was born on October 14, 1937, at Mason City, Iowa, the son of Clarence Cornelius and Leona Mary (Monson) Weiland. He attended and graduated from the Britt High School in 1955. Following graduation, he farmed for a few years, before entering the United States Army Reserves. He was enlisted for six months.

On July 16, 1962, Dean was united in marriage with Elaine Nedved at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Iowa. The couple made their home in Britt where they raised their family.

Dean owned a tanker truck and worked for Standard Oil for some time, then he became a salesperson for Britt Implement in Britt and later for Wellik-DeWitt Implement in Duncan. Most recently, Dean had been a driver for Velocity Express based out
of Clear Lake, Iowa. He retired in January of 2002.

Dean was a member of the Britt Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years, a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and he loved to fish, golf, garden, and play cards. Family was of great importance to Dean, and he cherished time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was known for his jokes and his sense of humor, and will be long remembered for his endless smile.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elaine of Britt, IA; four children and their families, Randy and Julene Weiland and their children, Cole and Seth of Britt, IA, John and Cathy Weiland and their children, Kaylee, Logan, and Lucas of Britt, IA, Carleen and Steve Fettkether and their children, Hunter and Isaac of Mason City, IA, and Douglas and Jennifer
Weiland of Britt, IA; sisters and brothers, Imogene Burgardt and her husband, John of Britt, IA, Darlene Dunbar of Britt, IA, Lois Conaway and her husband, Charles of Britt, IA, Diane McKinney and her husband, Roger of Queen Creek, AZ, Clarence Weiland and his wife, Bernice of Storm Lake, IA, and Don Weiland and his wife, Darlene of Britt, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Leona; a grandson, Stephen Fettkether, Jr.; brother, Larry Weiland; and his mother-in-law, Agnes Nedved.

Friends and relatives are invited to the parish hall for lunch following graveside service.

We deeply appreciate the tribute accorded our loved one by your presence here today.
