Marie Elizabeth Whitehurst, the daughter of Fred and Christina (MacKenzie) Larsen was born February 24, 1909 on a farm near Crystal Lake. She attended country school and then graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1927. On March 28, 1933, she was married to John William Whitehurst at the United Methodist parsonage in Britt. They worked for various farmers in the
Britt and Garner areas until 1946, when they moved east of Garner and continued farming for themselves. After John's death, August 25, 1991, Marie moved to Prairie View Apartments. She enjoyed her family, canning and traveling in Europe.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and the Garner Senior Citizens.

She is survived by four sons, Richard E. Whitehurst and his wife, Jeanette, of Garner, Robert E. Whitehurst and his wife, Sandra, of Algona, Rollin E. Whitehurst and his wife, MaDonna, of Thief' River Falls, MN and Reuben E. "Butch" Whitehurst and his wife, Terri, of Garner; five grandchildren, Lori Lynn Boyken and her husband, Danny, Richard John Whitehurst,
Matthew Duane Whitehurst, Shane Whitehurst and Shelley Haugland and her husband, Mark and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Whitehurst; a granddaughter, Shannon Elizabeth Whitehurst; a grandson, Edward Allen Whitehurst; her parents; two sisters, Viola Jacobsen and Rebecca McEldowney and two brothers, Anton Larsen and Eddie Larsen.
