Roland A. Shipman

Roland A. Shipman, 56, of Belvidere, Ill., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thurs., March 2, 2000 in Rockford, Ill.

Services were held at 11 a.m, Tues., March 7 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Belvidere, Ill., with Rev. Eugene Wille officiating. Burial will be Thurs. March 9 in Lake Lutheran Cemetery, Renwick. Visitation was from 4-7 p.m. Mon., March 6, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Belvidere, 111. Local services will be Thurs, March 9, at 10 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Corwith, with Rev. Caroline Engelbrecht officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to service.

Roland Alden Erdman Shipman was born to Roland and Aldean (Nerem) Erdman and adopted by Wilbur John Shipman in 1946. He attended Corwith-Wesley schools. Waldorf Junior College and graduated from Iowa State University in 1967 with a degree in agricultural business. He married Deloris Lucille Dahle Aug. 28, 1965, and they moved to Belvidere, 111. in 1967. He was employed by Green Giant for 21 years as well as by Woodward Governor and Riverview Farm Service.

He coached YMCA flag football. YMCA basketball. Belvidere Youth baseball and was involved with Junior Achievement. He was a volunteer for the sheriffs patrol for Boone County. He was an avid White Sox, Chicago Bears, and Iowa Hawkeye and Iowa Cyclones fan. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, served as an elder, the president of Immanuel Garden Club, and served on various committees as well.

He is survived by his wife: his son, Roland Shipman, II: his mother, Aldean Shipman of Corwith: brothers and sisters. Jackie Harle of Kanawha, Trudy (Ron) Cook of Beloit, Wis., Ramona Shipman of Perry, Bard (Mary) Shipman of Van Meter, Sara (Wyatt) Earp of Des Moines. Tonya (Dan) Butler of Aitkin, Minn. Wade (Pam) Shipman of Fayette. Ala.. and Angela (Dave) Anliker of
Perry.

Roland was preceded in death by his father, Roland Erdman: adopted father, Wilbur John Shipman: infant sister, Leann Lucille Shipman, maternal and paternal grandparents and brother-in-law, Merwyn Dahle.
