Andrew H. Lauen, 90, of Garner, formerly of Meservey, died Thursday, January 17, 2002 at the Concord Care Center, Garner.

Andrew H. Lauen was born December 11, 1911 on the family farm, rural Meservey, the son of Herman B. and Ida (Stadtlander) Lauer. He attended country school and graduated from Meservey High School in 1929. He attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering and returned to the Meservey area where he worked as a carpenter.

Andrew was united in marriage with Hernia Vierkant December 2, 1936 at the parsonage of First Reformed Church of Meservey by the Rev. Kampmam. The young couple moved to Sunnyvale, California where lie worked as an auto mechanic. They returned to Iowa after two years and lie worked for United Motors in Marshalltown.

After a couple years there, they moved to a farmstead near Meservey. While on the farm, Andrew, built all the buildings that are on the farm today. He also began to do plumbing and electrical work. He eventually owned and operated Lauen Electric. He continued with the farming operation and the electrical business until lie was 85 years old. He has resided at the Concord
Care Center in Garner for the last 2 years.

Andrew was a member of the First Reformed Church in Meservey. He served on the Meservey School Board and was a member of the Lions Club, as well as the Saddle Club. An active member of his community, Andrew received a plaque recognizing many years of service to Meservey.

He enjoyed fishing, swimming, ice-skating, and other activities with his family. He also enjoyed time spent with his friends and frequently was found up town having coffee with them.

Andrew is survived by his wife of 65 years, Hernia Lauen, Garner; 3 children: Dean (Mary) Lauen, Clear Lake, Dianne (Marv) Josten, Garner, Robert (Sandy) Lauen, Ventura; 7 grandchildren: JoDeane (Scott) Hafermann, Goodell, Todd Lauen, Meservey, Anne Lauen and fiance, Jeff Beck, Clear Lake, Lynne (Brian) Bovenmyer, Garwin, Iowa, Eric (Staci) Josten, Ankeny, Kim (Erik) Dorenkamp, Norwalk, and Nicholas Lauen, Ventura; 3 great grandchildren: Lyndsay, Jeffrey and Samantha Hafermann, brother, Christopher Lauen, Garner; sister-in-law, Edna Lauen, BeImond: and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister and one great granddaughter.
