Esther H. Mennenga, 88, of Belmond, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond after a lengthy illness.

Esther Henrietta Mennenga, daughter of Merino and Kate (Pals) Frohling, was born December 6, 1912 in rural Belmond. Esther graduated from Belmond High School in 1931 and taught in country school in Pleasant Township.

Esther was united in marriage to Harry E. Mennenga on February 9, 1934 at the Immanual Reformed Parsonage, Belmond, IA. She and Harry lived and farmed east of Belmond until 1982 when they moved into Belmond. Esther enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her seven grandsons and friends.

Esther was a long time member of the Immanual Reformed Church and served her church in many ways. She taught Bible School, Sunday school and catechism for many years. She was also a member of the Women's Guild.

Those thankful for sharing her life are her sons, Larry Mennenga and his wife Margaret of Belmond, IA; Lynn Mennenga and his wife Sue of Pontiac, IL; her sister Mildred Tomson and her husband Royce of Fort Dodge, IA; three brothers-in-law, Lloyd Cunningham of Belmond, IA; Ben Mennenga of Belmond; Loren Mennenga and wife Cindy of Belmond, IA; a sister-in-law, Edna Krebs and husband Ted of Crete, Ill; seven grandchildren, Duan Mennenga of Chicago, IL; Daren Mennenga and his wife Diena of Belmond, IA; Scott Mennenga and his wife Jill of Plainfield, IL; Todd Mennenga of Naperville, IL; Bradd Mennenga and his wife Victoria of Painsville, OH; Ross Mennenga and his wife Christina of Coal City, IL; Chadd Mennenga of Pontiac, IL; and six great-grandchildren: Brittany, Alexis, Sophie, Andrew, Alex, and Tristan Mennenga and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Harry in 1995, and two sisters Ruth Jenson and Erma Cunningham.

FRIENDS AND RELATIVES ARE INVITED BACK TO THE CHURCH FOR LUNCH FOLLOWING THE GRAVESIDE SERVICE.
