RuBee Violet Friedow, daughter of Jacob and Lena Swanson, passed away early Saturday morning, August 30, 1980, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital. She was born May 8, 1904 in Britt, Iowa and she was 76 years, 4 months and 22 days of age
at the time of her death.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith and was a member of the Britt Congregational United Church of Christ. RuBee attended the Britt school, graduating with the Class of 1921. After graduation she attended college in Chicago and returned to the Britt area and taught in the rural country schools. She was united in marriage to 0. W. (Orvin) Friedow on
October 10, 1931 at Britt and they made their home on a farm near Britt. They were very active in the National Poland China Purebred Hog Association and were well known for their Poland China hogs. RuBee returned to college, graduating from Mason City Junior College and later attended Drake University in Des Moines. She taught in the Garner-Hayfield school system, and prior to her retirement she taught at the Klemme school. She was active in her church, being a member of the Church Choir, the Ladies Aid and was Sunday School Superintendent for forty years.

RuBee was a State Board member of Kings Daughters International; a charter member of the Hancock County Historical Society; Hancock County Republican Women; Hancock County Rural Chorus; Britt American Legion Auxiliary; Britt Woman's Club; and the Britt Alumni Association, never missing an alumni banquet in 59 years. She was also a member of the Klemme Senior Citizens,
the Klemme Garden Club and other organizations. Flowers have been RuBee's life, all of her life.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Carol) Kline of Britt; 1 son, Bill Friedow of Buffalo Center; 5 grandchildren: Rick Kline of Waverly; Rhonda Shippy of Ventura; Dan, Denise and Dwight Kline, all of Britt; 2 great grandchildren: Reed Shippy and Tony Kline; 1 brother, Charles Swanson of Underwood, Minnesota and 1 sister, Mrs. Jenny Dimond of Britt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 3 sisters and 5 brothers.

We deeply appreciate the tribute accorded our loved one by your presence here today.

RuBee Friedow

BRITT — RuBee Friedow, 76, Britt, died Saturday (Aug. 30, 1980) at the hospital here.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Britt Congregational Church of Christ, the Rev. C. Earl Page officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery here. Visitation is until time of services at Carter Ewing Funeral Home, Britt.

Mrs. Friedow is survived by a son, Bill Friedow, Buffalo Center; a daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Carol) Kline, Britt: five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren: a brother, Charles Swanson, Underwood, Minn., and a sister, Jennie Dimond. Britt.

A lifetime Britt resident, Mrs. Friedow attended college in Chicago and taught in rural schools prior to her marriage in 1931 to 0.W. Friedow. They were active in the National Poland China Purebred Hog Association. She taught in the Garner Hayfield school system and later in Klemme schools before retiring.

She also was a Sunday school superintendent for 40 years and was a member of the Congregational Church of Christ and its choir; a charter member of Hancock County Historical Society; member of Britt American Legion Auxiliary, Hancock County Rural Chorus, Britt Women's Club, Klemme Senior Citizens and Klemme Garden Club. She also had been a state board member of King's Daughters International.
