Obituary
John J. Stille was born February 1st, 1869, on a farm in Warren County, Missouri. His parents, William and Caroline Straatman Stille, were natives of Germany.

At the age of 5, his parents, moved to Hancock County and lived on the farm known as Butterfield's Grove, here he, attended the rural school nearby and completed his common school education, after which, he attended the Academy at Garner, Iowa.

As a young man he was employed as a farm hand, and 50 years ago when the town of Klemme was platted, he was employed in the Henry Lau Warehouse selling farm implements and buying grain, during the threshing season, for many year, he operated the steam engine on different runs in this community.

In the spring of 1899 John J. Stille and Clara Gast were married. For a few years they farmed as renters, but later purchased a farm. in Liberty Township, which has been their home for 33 years.

John J. Stille was of cheerful disposition and seldom complained but for the last several years he walked with a cane because of a lameness caused by rheumatism, but other conditions developed to hasten his passing. which occurred Tuesday afternoon. September 24, 1940, at a Mason City hospital.

He reached the age of 71 years, 7 months and 23 days.

He leaves besides his wife, three daughters: Gertrude. Mrs. Elmer Schaefer, Liberty Twp, Fern, Mrs. Athur Carlson, Clear Lake, Iowa, and Lucille, Mrs. Cecil Bridges, Klemme. Four sons: Quintin, of Klemme, George, of Spencer, Iowa, Kermit and Virgil, of Liberty Twp, and also 11 grandchildren.

Mr. Stille's life reminds us of this quotation: "He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task."
