Iris Mildred (Sherwood) LaFavre the daughter of William Leon and Margaret Emily (Griggs) Sherwood was born May 2, 1911, at rural Goodell, Iowa. She graduated from Goodell High School and attended Drake University Junior High School teaching Program. She taught at Numa Schools, and moved to teach at Latimer Junior High. She retired from teachiing in 1939, and married Clell LaFavre on July 1, 1939, in Unionville, MO. They lived in Des Moines, where she worked for Broadlawns Hospital, working with the iron lung for polio patients. They moved to the farm in rural Klemme in 1941.
A very special interest of her and her sister was the development of Eldridge Sherwood Park, which was part of their land. She and Pat were active in the National Dairy Association, being especially interested in Brown Swiss Dairy Cows, winning many awards. Her special interests were horses, reading and communicating with many friends and acquaintances. Her happiness was her grandchildren and the following of their lives. She was an active member of the Goodell and Klemme United Methodist Churches, holding various offices.
She is survived by her son, Jerry LaFavre of Lakeville, MN; daughter, Margaret Sasse and her husband, Gus of Mason City, IA; grandchildren, Scott L. LaFavre and his wife, Shari of Lakeville, MN; Jeffrey L. LaFavre and his wife, Maxine of Burnsville, MN; Adam T. LaFavre of Prior Lake, MN; Cherrie Peterson and her husband, Tim of Owatonna, MN; Rachelle C. Kallevig and her husband, Larry of Plymouth, MN; Robert A. Gerdes and his wife, Kendra of Waukesha, WI; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Christal Anna, Brittney, Bethany, Landon, Lauren, Alexis, Alana, and Austin LaFavre, Trey, Rachelle, Chantel, and Trom Peterson. Sister, LaVonne Emmons of Emmons, MN; step- grandchildren, Robert Sasse and his wife, Kim, Joel Sasse and his fiance LaBeth Sheldon, Carl Sasse and his wife, Sandy, step-great-grandchildren, Kristen, Courtney, Chandler, and Devlynn Sasse, also many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends, and her cat, "Simon." She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Clell "Pat" LaFavre.
