JOHANNA BEEK was born September 5, 1864 at Warsingfehn, 0stfriesland, Germany. Her parents brought her to Holy baptism in the Lutheran Church. As a child she also received religious instruction and became a member of this church by Confirmation.

On April 6, 1885, at the age of 20 years, Johanna Beek was joined, in Holy wedlock to Harmon J. Coobs. The young couple left at once for America, arriving at Ackley, Iowa, April 13, 1885. Five years later they moved to the Klemme community where they farmed on various farms for 28 years. While here the family united with the Reformed Church and Mrs. Coobs has the honor of being the first President of the Ladies Aid of this church.

In 1918 the family moved to McGregor, Iowa, where they farmed for 13 years. And then after being married for 46 years the family circle was broken when Mr. Coobs died in 1931. Seven children were born to this union, six of whom survive. One son, John, having died in 1922 at the age of 36 years

On September 14, 1932, Mrs. Johanna Coobs and Derk Ebeling were married at Mcgregor, and then moved to Marion, South Dakota where they have lived for the past 14 years.

Some months ago Mrs. Ebeling became ill with a throat ailment and she spent some weeks at Rochester and 10 days at Iowa City, but the doctors could not help her. Before going to her home at Marion, South Dak., she decided to spend a week or more at Klemme visiting her children and while visiting at the Verner Lewis home, she suddenly passed on; this was on Monday evening, October 7th, 1946. She reached, the age of 82 years, 1 month and 1 day, and leaves of her immediate family, her husband, Derk Ebeling, and six children:
