Mrs. Anna Dahlgren - 1882-1959

Mrs. Anna Dahlgren Swanson was the daughter of the late Magnus and Lena Dahlgren. She was born at Rolanda, Sweden, April 19, 1882.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran faith. Sae also attended the public schools and grew into young womanhood in Sweden.

At the turn of the century Anna left her native land and came to the home of her brother, who lived in Chicago, Illinois, to care or his children after the death of their mother. Through her efforts she made it possible for her widowed mother and other members of her family to come to America also.

On October 5, 1905, Miss Dahlgren was united in marriage with Mr. Oscar Swanson. The couple established their home on a farm near Morris, Illinois.

To this union seven children were born: Ruth and Roy (twins), Dora, Leonard, Edith, Ethel and Phyllis.

In 1911, Mr. and Mrs. Swanson and their family left Illinois and moved to their newly acquired farm two miles east of Klemme, Iowa, where they lived until their children were grown.

In 1937, Mr. and Mrs. Swanson retired from active farming, and their son, Roy, took over the management of the home place. For a few years they resided on the adjoining farm during the summer months and traveled to warmer climates in the winter. Then they moved to Clear Lake, where they resided until Mr. Swanson's death on November 25, 1957. Mrs. Swanson continued to make her home there until September, 1958, at which time she moved to Klemme.

Although she was partially handicapped by a severe loss of hearing, Mrs. Swanson's favorite pastime was listening to church services on the radio and television. Her health was fair until this past spring when it, began to fail noticeably.

On October 13, 1959, Mrs. Swanson suffered a severe stroke, and on Thursday morning, October 15, she slipped away in the same manner as she had lived; quietly and peacefully.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar, and her youngest son, Leonard, who passed away on July 12, 1954.

Surviving and left to mourn her passing are her children: Roy Swanson. Ruth (Mrs. Orvel Bridges), Edith (Mrs. Reuben Lemke), all of Klemme: Mrs. Ethel Dossinger of Long Beach, Calif.: Dora (Mrs. Francis Lawhorn) of Lynwood. Calif.; Phyllis (Mrs. Karl Loeffler) of Nora Springs, Iowa: and four step children: Mary Swanson, Albert Swanson, Esther (Mrs. John Etchen), all of Klemme; and Carl Swanson of Britt, Iowa.

Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren: one brother. Karl, in Norway, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Swanson will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
