Forest City Summit Obituary, Forest City, Winnebago County, Iowa dated Thursday, Oct 23, 1924
Amanda Mae Benson was the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Benson. She was born at Hayfield, Iowa, August 22, 1901, and died at Aberdeen, Washington, October 12, 1924, being past twenty-three years old at the time of her death. She grew to womanhood here and attended the public school graduating in the class of 1920, being the first of the Hayfield High School alumni to be called to the great beyond. She was a regular church and Sunday school attendant and was Sunday school pianist for several years, always doing the work she was asked to do faithfully and well. She was married to Verne F. Oleson, May 9 1920, and to this union two little sons were born; Wayne, age three, and Duane; aged nineteen months.
Shortly after their marriage they established their home at Clear Lake, later moving back to Hayfield and in January this year left for Aberdeen, to make their home where Mr. Oleson had a good position.
By hard work, she and her husband had built for themselves a little home and it was from this home on Monday, October 13, that she left her little sons to walk across the street to make some purchases for the noon day meal, and was struck by a passing auto. She was taken to the hospital and her husband summoned, but she never regained consciousness and passed away a short time later. The young husband made the 2000 mile trip alone with the two little sons to bring the body back to her childhood home. There are left besides the above, her parents, two sisters, Mrs. Forrest Oleson of Little Rock, Iowa, and Anna at home, Verne's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Oleson, besides many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Hayfield church at 2:00 P.M. October 20, and interment was made at the Madison Township Cemetery. Rev. Corain Taylor of the Forest City Methodist Church conducted the services.
