Services for Hattie M. Smidt, 80, Britt, who died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1991 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, were held Friday, Nov. 22, 10:30 a.m. at the Britt Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Brent Wassink officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Sharon Sweers; and Peggy Eisenman who accompanied soloist, Marvin Engh. Ushers were Lee Fedders and Steve Hasty.

Casket bearers were Dr. Jerald DeWaard, Harlan Eekhoff, George Assink, Gregory Byers, Ron Eisenman, James Smith and Dave Byers.

Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt with Ewing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Hattie M. Smidt, the daughter of John and Johanna Benninger Cooper, was born December 15, 1910 at Kanawha. She graduated from Kanawha High School.

December 28, 1933, she married Louis Smidt at the Kanawha parsonage in Kanawha. The couple made their home at her parents' farm home until 1938 at which time they moved to a farm southwest of Britt where they farmed until 1974 and then moved into Britt.

She was a member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, choir director, conducted Bible Study, President of the Ladies Aide and also served as Sunday School teacher. In 1974, she transferred her membership to the Britt Christian Reformed Church and was a member of the Ladies Aide in Britt. She served as a 4-H leader, sang in the Hancock County Women's Chorus, was past president of the Federated Women's Club and was a member of the Hancock County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Louis of Britt; one daughter, Mary Lou Johnson and her husband, Harvey D. of Forest City; three grandchildren, Dawn Bunnel and her husband, Jim, Jason and Kristie; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Hoel of Clear Lake and Mrs. Gertrude Knoll of Mason City; and two brothers, Albert of Kanawha and William of Clear Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and six brothers.
