Services for Alvina J. Meyer, 88, of Garner, who died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 1996, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City, were held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 30, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner with Rev. James I. Lamb and Rev. Clyde Kieschnick officiating.

Mrs. Dean Cataldo was organist. Ushers were Earl Webner and John Tammen.

Casket bearers were grandchildren James W. Meyer, II, Julie Trost, Timothy Meyer, Thomas Meyer, Tamara Riegel, Susan Kucenski, Sarah Meyer, Kathy Meyer, Shelly Witting, Sheila Sperr, Sherry Loftus and Mark Waddingham.

Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery, in Garner. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner on Monday.

Alvina Johanna Meyer, the daughter of Fred and Marla (Drewes) Struecker, was born June 9, 1907 on a farm near West Bend. She attended the Lutheran Parochial School in Whittemore.

September 26, 1928, she married Martin "Max" William Meyer at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Whittemore. In 1931 they moved from Whittemore to Garner where they lived the rest of their lives. In the spring of 1987, Alvina moved to Prairie View Apartments in Garner. She enjoyed her family, friends, quilting and crocheting.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and L.W.M.L. in which she placed an active roll.

She is survived by her four children, James Meyer and his wife, Julie of Garner, Rev. Edward Meyer and his wife, Melba, of Conover, NC, Rev. David Meyer and his wife, Vivian of Havelock, NC, and Marie Waddingham and her husband, David of Garner; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, James W. Meyer II and his wife, Priscilla and their three children, Katie. Christopher and Jordan, Julie Trost and her husband, Jeff, and their three children, Jason, Jill and Jon, Timothy Meyer and his wife. Heather, Thomas Meyer and his wife, Deb, and their three children, Melissa, Bryan and Jason, Tamara Riegel and her husband, Matthew, Susan Kucenski and her husband, Bill, and their son, Andrew, Sarah Meyer, Kathy Meyer, Shelly Witting and her husband, Rick, Sheila Sperr and her husband, Keith, Sherry Loftus and her husband, Mike, and their son, Ryan, and Mark Waddingham and his wife, Liz, and their daughter, Megan; three sisters-in-law, Frieda Struecker of Emmetsburg, Ida Struecker of Whittemore and Aleen Struecker of Whittemore.

She was preceded in death by her husband, M. W. "Maxie" Meyer, December 20, 1985; her daughter-in-law. Ruth Meyer, December 10, 1985; a grandson, John Meyer, July 23, 1990; her parents; and three brothers, Erwin Struecker, Walter Struecker and Werner Struecker.
