Terry Hrubes, 19

Terry Hrubes, 19, a 1978 graduate of Garner-Hayfield High School, was found drowned Thursday morning in a swimming pool at a Waterloo trailer park.

According to reports the drowning probably occurred between 11 p.m. Wednesday night and 7 a.m. Thursday morning. A maintenance man discovered the body lying face down on the bottom of the pool about 7 a.m. A folded towel and clothing were found at poolside.

Police reported no suspicious circumstances concerning the incident and ruled the cause of death to be accidental drowning.

Hrubes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hrubes, Britt, was born Mar. 1, 1960, at Belmond. He was attending Hawkeye Tech at Waterloo, majoring in diesel mechanics. He also worked at Schultz Manufacturing in Waterloo while going to school.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 18 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan with Rev. Msgr. John Chihak as celebrant. Mass servers were Richard Trca, Ronald Hrubes and Kevin Paca. Patti Paca, organist, accompanied the church choir and soloist Diane Ritter. Ushers were George Hrubes and Leonard Paca. Casketbearers were: Rob Roths, Mike Legge, Dennis Hrubes, Dale Hrubes, Dean Hrubes and Al Silber. Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Duncan. Family rosary, parish rosary and Catholic Workman's rosary were held Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Hrubes was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and the Catholic Workman's Lodge.

He is survived by his parents, Clarence and Joan Hrubes; his brothers and sisters, Gaylord of Mason City, Mrs. Thomas (Renee) Devine of Ames, Patti, Michael and Suzette, all at home; a niece, Rachel Devine; his grandmother, Mrs. Myrtle Lemke of Klemme.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jilji and Rose Hrubes and his grandfather, Walter Lemke.
