1906-1988Services for William G. Malek, Sr., 81, of Britt, who died Monday, Feb. 29, 1988 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 3 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan with Rev. Fr. Dale J. Rausch as celebrant and Msgr. John Chihak as concelebrant. Leonard Formanek will be lector.
Ushers will be Syl Malek and Leo Nedved. Mrs. Roger Kopacek, organist, will accompany the choir.
Casket bearers will be Duane Malek, David Malek, Leo Wellik, Bernard Kofron, Michael Suby and Nicholas Lamoreux.
Burial will be in St. Johns Catholic Cemetery in Duncan visitation will be held at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt after 1 p.m., Wednesday where a Rosary Society rosary will be held at 3 p.m., a Catholic Workman's Lodge rosary at 7:30 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake Service at 8:15 p.m.
William George Malek, Sr., the son of George and Antonia (Fiala) Malek, was born August 24, 1906 on a farm in Hancock County. At an early age, he moved with his family, to North Dakota, where they lived for 3 years and then returned to Hancock County. Bill graduated from Hayfield High School in 1926.
January 20, 1931, he married Lillian Vavrik at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan. They farmed all of their married life (57 years) in Hancock County. Bill was a salesman for DeKalb Seed Corn Company for several years.
He enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and Catholic Workman's Lodge #51.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian, of Britt; his son, William Joseph Malek, and his wife, Sally, of Britt; 3 grandchildren, Daniel, James and Rosanne; 5 great grandchildren; his sisters and brothers, Mrs. Beatrice Kofron of Britt, Clement Malek and his wife, Alice, of Britt, Mrs. Daryl (Bernadine) Lamoreux of Mason City, Ernest Malek and his wife, Clara, of Britt and Mrs. Theresa Suby of Britt.
He was preceded in death by 3 grandchildren; his parents and his sister, Mrs. Jilji (Agnes) Wellik.
