1921-1997Services for Hazel A. Denney, 75, of Garner, who died Friday, April 11, 1997, were held 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, at the United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Willis Nicholson officiating.
Music was provided by organist, Audrey Sonnenberg, and soloist, Beverly Cataldo. Usher was Norman Henschen.
Casket bearers were E.D. "Red" Buntenbach, Paul Ristau, Bob Sniezek, Doug Hayes, Lance Gardner and Duane Hutchinson.
Honorary bearers were David Bye, Raymond Bye, James Bye, Eldo Ouerbo, Bob Ouerbo and Jason Gardner. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel.
Hazel Adeline Denney, the daughter of Edward and Jennie Ann (Wentworth) Stuart, was born October 30, 1921 at Buffalo Center. She graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1939 and then attended La' James Beauty School in Mason City. She worked at beauty shops in Northwood and Garner.
July 22, 1942, she married Boyd Denney at the Ellis Point Methodist Church at Buffalo Center. They made their home in Lebanon, IN, where she worked at a defense plant for several years. In 1945, they moved to Rake where they farmed. In 1958, they moved to Garner where they owned and operated the Westside Grocery Store. In 1988, they remodeled the store and changed it to Denney's Townhouse Deli. Hazel and Boyd continued to work at the Deli together until retirement.
She enjoyed her family and working.
She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Garner.
She is survived by her husband, Boyd of Garner; a son, Roger Denney and his wife, Sheryll of Garner; a grandson, Brian Denney of Garner; two sisters, Edith Ourebo of Wells, MN, and Zella Bye Prafke of Kiester, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Cecil Stuart and a sister, Irene Evenson.
