1926-1990Services for Melvin Jones, 63, of Garner, who died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 1990 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City, were held 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 16 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Rev. Msgr. John Chihak as officiant.
Mrs. Carolyn Kumsher, organist, accompanied the church choir. Sr. Mary K. Doughan was lector. Ushers were Elmer Urich and Robert Kral.
Casket bearers were Robert Strayer, Mike Jones, James Reinig, Homer VanOort, Gerald Schmidt and Larry Wise. Burial was in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery at Garner. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner where the Knights of Columbus and the Parish conducted services Thursday evening.
Melvin Eugene Jones, the son of Hugh Ivan and Elizabeth Margaret (Conroy), Jones was born September 26, 1926 at Ventura. After attending school at Garner, Melvin worked for his father, Goodrich and Bethke, Nelson Freight Company, Iowa Electric Light and Power Company and Farmer's Cooperative Creamery.
September 30, 1947, he married Elaine Roach at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner. For 22 years, he worked at Hancock County Court House; retiring, October 31, 1989.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Garner; his children, Mrs. Suzanne Johnson and her husband, Gene of St. Louis Park, MN and their children, Casey and Molly; Mrs. Priscilla Meyer and her husband, James of Belmond and their children, Katie, Christopher and Jordan, Dennis Jones and his wife, Pam of Garner and their children, Kwin and Kayli and Sallie Anne Jones of Mason City and her children, Ryan and Reid; his sisters and brothers, Mrs. Mary Nell Immel and her husband, Wayne of Phoenix, AZ, Edwin Jones of Mason City, Mrs. Anna Mae Fry and her husband, John of Detroit, MI, Mrs. Louise Bly of Sioux Falls, SD, Gary Jones and his wife, Linda, of Vallejo, CA and Charles Jones and his wife, Suzanne of Forest City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lawrence Jones.
