Mrs. Fred Hansen Buried Crystal Lake

Died at Elkhorn, Wednesday, February 28, In Her Eightieth Year

Joe Osman was called Wednesday afternoon to go to Elkhorn, Iowa, and get the body of Mrs. Fred Hansen, of Crystal Lake. He brought the body to the Osman Chapel and on Sunday afternoon took it to Crystal Lake where services were conducted and burial made. Our correspondent at Crystal Lake furnishes the following story:

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Fred Hansen with Rev. Gerhard Hjelmaas in charge of the service, which was held at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock.

Mrs. Hansen was born at Bjarmark Hylofte Sogen, Lolland, Denmark, June 30, 1865. On October 11, 1889, she was married to Christ Hansen. To this union was born a daughter, who died at the early age of two years. Mr. Christ Hansen died in August, 1906.

In August, 1907, Mrs. Hansen arrived in the United States of America and was married to Mr. Fred Hansen in October, 1907. They lived happily together on their farm south of Crystal Lake, later retiring and moving to Crystal Lake in 1913. Mr. Hansen passed away in August, 1931.

Mrs. Hansen lived alone until October, 1943, when she moved to an Old Ladies Home at Elkhorn, Iowa, where she died on February 28, 1945. She was a great lover of flowers and birds. She fed the birds the year around, furnished them plenty of water during the summer, and raised many beautiful flowers.

Mrs. Hansen was reared in the Lutheran faith, but was a regular attendant in the Methodist church here as long as she was able. She also worked in the Ladies Aid and served faithfully there.

Mrs. Hansen is survived by a few nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lloyd Christenson and Mrs. P. H. Hansen, of this community, are relatives of her late husband.

The pallbearers were Paul Anderson, J. J. Hansen, Chris Christofferson, Eric Christiansen, Pete Juhl and Cliff Stewart. Mrs. Hansen was laid to rest beside her husband in the Crystal Lake cemetery.
