Services for Virgil "Ron" Gordon, 54, of Clear Lake, who died Sunday, Sept. 8, 1996, at home in Clear Lake, will be held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner with Rev. Kathy Graves, Director of Spiritual Care of Hospice of North Iowa, as officiant.

Mrs. Dean Cataldo will be organist and soloist.

Casket bearers will be Wendell Mayes, Michael Laabs, Wayne Wubben, Jim Kirschbaum, Bill Kirschbaum and Dennis Hoeft.

Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Clear Lake Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Burial will be at Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. Visitation was from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Virgil Ronald Gordon, the son of Virgil Edward and Wilma Faye (Gamble) Gordon, was born July 9, 1942 at Forest City. He attended school at Clarion. Ron served his country in the U.S. Navy from July of 1959 through July of 1963.

April 3, 1964, he married Karen Hansen Blanshan at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. He worked for Gordon's Locker in Buffalo Center which he later owned and operated. From 1983-95, he worked on road construction. His most recent employer being Charlson Excavating of Clear Lake. In July of 1995, he retired due to ill health. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was a member of the V.F.W., Post # 4868 in Clear Lake and was a former volunteer fireman in Buffalo Center.

He is survived by his daughter, Ann Gordon of Forest City and her fiancee, Chuck Wenthold of Jefferson; two sons, Douglas Blanshan and his wife, Brenda of Albert Lea, MN. and David Blanshan of Buffalo Center; a special friend, Linda Burkgren of Clear Lake; three grandchildren, Jessica Blanshan, Adam Blanshan and Ashley Blanshan; his mother, Wilma Erdman of Garner; two sisters, Twyla Erdmann of Garner and Diane Gilbert and her husband, Rick of Garner; a niece, Angie Erdmann of Garner, a nephew, Brad Erdmann of Garner; and a great niece, Morgan.

He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Gordon in 1987.
