Mrs. Ben Knoll Rites Held Here Tuesday Morning

Mother Of Seven Children Had Been In Poor Health For Past Two Years

The holiday season was saddened for members of the Ben Knoll family of Garner when Mrs. Knoll, who had been in failing health for the past two years, succumbed at her home early Saturday morning, Dec. 23.

Funeral rites were held at the St. Boniface Catholic church in Garner Tuesday morning, and burial was made in the Catholic cemetery. Pall bearers were Hans Nielsen, E. M. Papousek. Robert Kirschbaum, John Sebers, William Houdek and Lloyd Brugman.

Josephine Cecil Bryant was born at Zearing Sept. 1, 1889, and so was just past 50 at the time of her death. She was married to Ben Knoll at
Haverhill Oct. 8, 1908. The couple lived on farms near Haverhill and Marshalltown for several years.

They moved to a farm near Klemme 20 years ago and later farmed two years near Goodell. Then they moved to the Garner community and in 1929 moved to town.

June 10, 1937, Mrs. Knoll suffered a stroke from which she never fully recovered. She had been bedfast since last April, and since July, when she returned from the General hospital at Iowa City, where she spent five weeks, she made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Juhl, in Garner.

Surviving are her husband; six daughters: Elsie, now Mrs. Jake Dorenkamp of Thornton; Isabelle, now Mrs. Joe Dankbar of Clear Lake; Irma, now Mrs. John Haaf of Garner; Rita, now Mrs. Juhl; LaVohn, at home, and Lorraine, also at home; one son, Elmer, of Garner; her mother, Mrs. Jane Bryant of Waterloo; three brothers, C. R. Bryant of Waterloo, Leo Bryant of Marshalltown and Cedryc Bryant of Houston, Tex.; 13 grandchildren; and a large circle of friends.
