Services for Donald D. Auchampach, 73, of Garner, who died Friday, January 23, 1998 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East Campus, Mason City, were held Monday Jan. 26, 10:30 a.m., at the United Presbyterian Church in Garner with Pastor Daniel Bloesch officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Audrey Sonnenberg, who accompanied soloist, Sandy Bloesch, and a congregational hymn. Ushers were Norman Henschen and Harlan Haberkamp.

Casket bearers were Robert Ristau, Gary Huisinga, H.W. "Bud" Montgomery, Richard Dawson, Harlan Carolus and Roland Schmidt.

Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Visitation was held Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Home.

Donald Dean Auchampach, the son of George and Jennie (Johnson) Auchampach, was born March 26, 1924, in Garner. He attended school in Garner and graduated from Garner High School in 1942. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945 in the South Pacific. After the service, he returned to Garner and was employed by Northern Natural Gas Company.

February 26, 1950, he married Nora Jean Hart at the Zion Lutheran Church in Rake. They made their home in Garner where they raised their children. Don continued to work at Northern Natural Gas Company and then retired after 33 years of employment.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He liked watching sports having participated in baseball, softball, golf and fishing over the years. In his retirement years, much of his time was spent reading, listening to jazz music and spending time with the guys visiting over a cup of coffee.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where he had served as a trustee, the Garner American Legion and V.F.W. Post.

He survived by his wife, Jean Auchampach of Garner; three children, Lori Garrard and husband, Don of Pella, John Auchampach and wife, Tina of Louisville, KY, and Sheri VanOort and husband, Rich of Garner; four granddaughters, Elizabeth and Brianna Garrard and Mandy and Erin VanOort.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Cory Garrard, March 18, 1983; his parents; and a brother, Orland W. Auchampach, September 25, 1988.
