Rites for Dennis Shirk held at Forest Lutheran

Dennis D. Shirk, Teslow Chevrolet-Olds business manager for 27 years, died at his home west of Forest City Saturday morning. He was 47.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Evangelical Lutheran church. The Rev. John Shep officiated, and burial was in Madison, township cemetery.

Casket bearers were Donald Albertson, Frank Anderson, Richard Espeland, Peter Etzen, Myrle Jefson and Everett Leach. Honorary bearers were Edward Etzen, Clarence V. Johnson, Goldon Knapper, Norman McEnelly, Mel H. Teslow and Richard W. Thompson.

Graveside military rites were conducted by members of Forest City American Legion Post No. 121. The Olson-Petersen funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Shirk, a son of Simon and Helen (Schnoor) Shirk, was born Sept. 29, 1926, in Bricelyn, Minn. He attended Bricelyn public schools, and graduated from high school in 1944.

On March 5, 1945, he was inducted into the Army Air Force, and served during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific theater. Mr. Shirk was discharged from the military Dec. 10, 1946.

On Feb. 14, 1947, he was married to Fern Schlender at the Schlender home in Forest City.

Mr. Shirk began employment with what was formerly Forest City Motor Co., and has continued with Teslow Chevrolet-Olds, Inc., as business manager for 27 years. He was a member of Forest City American Legion Post N, 121 and Forest City Lutheran church.

Survivors include his wife, Fern, and three sons, Randy, Mike, and Brad, all of Forest City.

He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Shirk of Bricelyn, Minn,; two brothers, Larry Shirk of Lake Mills and Sherwood Shirk of
San Diego, Calif. He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Gene.
