Services for Abbie R. Kral, 89, of Garner who died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Concord Care Center were held 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 19, at St. Boniface Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. John W. Hemann officiating. Lector was Steve Kral.

Music was provided by organist, Mrs. Carolyn Kumsher, who accompanied the church choir. Usher was Lawrence Engstler.

Casket bearers were Steve Kral, Tom Kral, Linda Kral, Gene Jakoubek, John Nelson and Dave Jakoubek.

Interment was at St. John's catholic Cemetery, Duncan.

Visitation was held Thursday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner.

Abbie Rose Kral, the daughter of Fred and Emma (Wellik) Jakoubek, was born September 10, 1909, on a farm in Garfield Township northeast of Garner. After attending school at Hayfield, she worked at home and for various neighbors as a housekeeper.

October 9, 1934, she married Joseph Kral at St. Boniface Catholic Church. They lived in Duncan and then farmed northwest of Garner. In December of 1949, they moved into Garner.

Abbie worked at Garner-Hayfield Community Schools as a cook for several years. After her husband, Joe, passed away, she continued to live in her home. Due to ill health, she moved to Concord Care Center in March of 1997. Abbie enjoyed baking, gardening, knitting, crocheting and raising flowers especially her African violets. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rosary Society, International Affairs Circle and a charter member of W.S. Homemakers Club where she had been a member for almost 50 years.

She is survived by her son, Robert Kral and his wife, Marilyn of Garner; four grandchildren, Stephen Kral of Garner and his special friend, Ronda Brozik, Thomas Kral of Garner and his special friend, Debra Juhl, Judy Webb and her husband, Mike of Warner Robins, GA, and Linda Kral of Ames; a great-grandson, Shane Webber; three sisters, Helen Osheim of Omaha, NE, Dorothy Nedved of Mason City, and Eleanor Nelson and her husband, Laverne of Clear Lake; a brother, William Jakoubek and his wife, Emma of Garner; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, December 11, 1983; an infant daughter, Evelyn Margaret Kral; and her parents.
