Services for Edith R. Pollock, 88, of Garner, who died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at Prairie View Apartments were held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5, at the United Presbyterian Church with Pastor Daniel Bloesch officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Lucile Wesson, who accompanied congregational hymns. Ushers were Norman Henschen and Gordon Pringnitz.

Interment was held in Concord Township Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Edith Ruth Pollock, the daughter of Conrad J. and Jennie (Carlson) Quackenbush, was born May 14, 1910, at Syracuse, IN. The family settled in Creston where she graduated from Creston High School and Junior College. She graduated from Parsons College at Fairfield and did graduate work in the University of Iowa, Iowa State Teacher's College at Cedar Falls and at Ft. Collins, CO. She taught high school English in Cincinnati, IA, Hayfield and at Garner. Later, she was the school librarian at Garner High School.

June 1, 1938, she married Clarke Pollock at the United Presbyterian Church in Garner. They celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary in June of this year. She and Clarke traveled often visiting Africa, the Holy Land and Greece and many places in America. She spent three weeks traveling in Europe. Her hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles and traveling.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and held several offices in the U.P.W. Association. She also belonged to the Elzevir Sorority at Parsons College, was a charter member of the Garner chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a long time member of the Garner Recital Club and Homemakers Hobby Club and was a Rotary Ann for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Clarke of Garner; two children, Carolyn Weinheimer and her husband, William of Hollister, CA: and Scott Pollock and his wife, Carol of Tampa, FL; four grandchildren, Lara Weinheimer-Munro, Amy Weinheimer, Michael Pollock and Susan Pollock; a sister, Betty Stough of Carol Stream, IL; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Quackenbush of Walden, NY, and Ethel Quackenbush of Jonesboro, AR; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Charles and Robert Quackenbush.
