Rites for Mrs. Sam Nerem held Monday afternoon

Mrs. Sam Nerem, 69, a resident of Madison township for many years, died Friday morning at Forest City municipal hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran church. The Rev. Owen Gangstead officiated. Burial was in Madison township cemetery.

Casket bearers were John Amelsberg, Gerald Boman, Harvey Barkema, Robert Langfald, Duane Reese and Carl Prescott. Special music was provided by the Rev. Paul Mork, soloist, and Leonard Markusen, organist. The Olson-Petersen funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nerem, nee Evelyn Howe, was born July 6, 1905, at Humboldt, S.D. Her parents were Ola and Jennie (Larson) Howe. When Mrs. Nerem was a child, she moved with her family to North Dakota and then to Lake Crystal, Minn., where she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

On Sept. 6, 1922, she was married to Sam Nerem at Albert Lea. The couple established their home on a farm near Forest City. Mrs. Nerem, was a charter member of the North Madison birthday club, a former Sunday school teacher and a member of Immanuel Lutheran church.

She is survived by her husband, Sam; a son, Erwin Nerem of Forest City; a brother, Lloyd Howe of Forest City; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Ashmore of Minot, N. D.; two grandchildren, Mrs. Stephen (Jolene) Hart of Ainsworth, Neb., and Larry Nerem of Forest City and a great-granddaughter, Marcia Hart.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nerem was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Howe.
