Services for Mrs. Bertha Smith, 99, of Woden, who died Thursday at the Titonka Care Center in Titonka were held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 26, at St., John's Lutheran Church in Woden with Rev. Mark Smith as officiant.

Mrs. John Kurtzleben served as organist. Ushers were Vernon Stohr and Lyle Doege.

Casket bearers were Donald Smith, Roger Smith, Darwin Smith, Dennis Smith, Kenneth Boelts and Gerald Mangle.

Burial was in Bingham Township Cemetery at Woden Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Woden.

Mrs. Bertha Kathryn Smith, the daughter of Heinrich and Anthe Buns, was born Feb. 8, 1884 at Heidelberg, Germany. At the age of ten she came to the United States with her family and settled in the Buffalo Center area.

Feb. 17, 1904 she was married to Ralph J. Smith at Mason City. They farmed near Mason City for two years and then moved to the Woden area where they continued to farm until retiring in 1944. For the past ten years she had lived at the Titonka Care Center.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid at Woden.

She is survived by her children, Mrs. Anna Boelts of Woden, Ralph M. Smith and his wife, Mae, of Woden, and Henry Arthur Smith and his wife, Leora, of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, in 1958; a daughter, Dorothy Smith; a son-in-law, John Boelts; her parents; a sister, Mrs. Anna Turner; four brothers, John Buns, Herman Buns, Charles Buns and Anthony Buns.
