Services for Herman Gerdes, 79, of Woden, who died Sunday at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City were held 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Woden with Rev. Mark Smith as officiant. Mrs. John Kurtzleben, organist, accompanied soloist, Honroe Halverson. Vernon Stohr and Antony V. Buns served as ushers.

Casket bearers were Francis Harrington, Vernon Hanna, Calvin Kurtzleben, Edward Stohr, Vernon Lorenzen and Kenzy Korte.

Burial was in Bingham Township Cemetery at Woden. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Woden.

Herman William Gerdes, the son of Frederick and Rebecca (Brunsen) Gerdes was born Dec. 9, 1904 on a farm east of Woden. He attended the rural schools of Bingham Township and then farmed with his brothers on the family farm.

He retired in the late 1950's and moved into Woden where he lived with his brother and sister. In September, 1983, he moved to the Titonka Care Center at Titonka.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Woden.

He is survived by his brother John Gerdes and his wife, Cora,. of Woden; two sisters: Mrs. Theresa Gerdes of Woden and Mrs. Bertha Gerdes of Woden; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Gertrude Gerdes of Mason City, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: three sisters: Mrs. Sena Nielsen, Mrs. Anna Kleeman and Hilda Gerdes; four brothers: George Gerdes, Fred Gerdes, Theodore Gerdes and Albert Gerdes.
