Services for Harm Kurtzleben, 80, of Britt, who died Wednesday, Sept., 13, 1989 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt were held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 16 at the United Methodist Church in Britt with Rev. Dennis Bailey as officiant.

Mrs. Ruby Hodson, organist, accompanied Mrs. Russell Schubert, soloist. Ushers were Gilbert Guenther and Harry Smith.

Honorary bearers were Floyd Smith, Erwin L. Buck, Harley Limberg, Elbert Green, Carl Rieken and Richard Rieken.

Active bearers were Clay Hobbs, Robert Buns, Charles Smith, Gerald Vrieze, Tim Grove and Ken Vanden Hoek.

Burial was in Bingham Township Cemetery in Woden. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt.

Harm Kurtzleben, the son of Jacob and Katherine (Korte) Kurtzleben, was born April 9, 1909 on a farm in German Township in Grundy County. He attended the Flowing Well School in Grundy County. In 1914, the family moved to a farm east of Woden, where Harm continued his education. He was confirmed and became a member of the Presbyterian Church in Woden.

February 23, 1933, he married Gertrude Stohr at Woden. They farmed in Orthel Township. Gertrude died, July 18, 1969. In November of 1974, Harm retired from farming and moved into Britt.

November 30, 1974, he married Martha Deters Geerdes at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Harm bred and raised purebred Hereford cattle for many years and also did custom farming and trucking.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt and had served as a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church in Woden.

He is survived by his wife, Martha, of Britt; his children, Mrs. Imogene Boomgarden and her husband, Lee, of Wellsburg, Donald Geerdes and his wife, Connie, of Brookfield Center, CN and Dale Geerdes and his wife, Becky, of Cedar Falls; four grandsons, Gary Boomgarden, Brian Boomgarden, Nathan Geerdes and Nicolaus Geerdes; his sisters and brother, Mrs. Frances Bruns and her husband, Bruno, of Britt, Kathrine Kurtzleben of Titonka, Calvin Kurtzleben and his wife, Harriet, of Woden and Mrs. JoAnn Hobbs and her husband, J. D., of Hampton; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude; his parents; and a sister, Johanna Kurtzleben.
