1908-1998

Services for Arlene M. Rittenhouse, 89, of Woden, who died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City, were
held 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 27, at the First Presbyterian Church in Woden with the Rev. Roland Emond, Jr. officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Mrs. Anita Eden, who accompanied congregational hymns.

Casket bearers were Ken Amsbaugh, Bob Jensen, Tom Jensen, Scott Spurlin, Bryan Nielsen and Don Isebrand.

Burial was in Bingham Township Cemetery, south of Woden.

Visitation was held Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Woden.

Arlene M. Rittenhouse, the daughter of Ulrich and Mary (Kiesau) Ludeking, was born August 28, 1908, at Woden. She grew up in Woden and attended schools in Crystal Lake and Woden. She attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City graduating in 1927. Arlene then worked as a secretary at Champlin Oil Company in Mason City.

March 10, 1928 she married Dale Rittenhouse at the United Methodist Church in Northwood. They lived in Woden all of their married life and were the owners and operators of Rittenhouse Drug for 30 years. Arlene was also a correspondent for the County Newspapers and was a receptionist for the Boughton-Cataldo Funeral Home in Woden for 21 years.

She was a lifetime member of the United Presbyterian Church in Woden where she served as organist for over 35 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Joan Jensen and her husband, Bob, of Dougherty and Arlys Spurlin of Mason City; six grandchildren, Bob Jensen of Sheffield, Tom Jensen of Sheffield, Mary Amsbaugh and husband, Ken of Sheffield, Scott Spurlin and wife, Terry of Austin, TX, Janet Nielsen and husband, Bryan of Tea, SD, and Cindy Fullerton of Mason City; six great-grandchildren, Taylor and Paul Spurlin of Austin, TX, Brett and Amanda Nielsen of Tea, SD, Ryan Fullerton of Mason City, and Sam Amsbaugh of Sheffield; and one sister-in-law, Connie Ludeking of Waukon.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dale in 1970; two sisters, Estelle Giesking and Gertrude Gerdes; and two brothers, Bernard and Harold Ludeking.
