Services for Mrs. Cella Bunkofske, 91, of Garner, who died Monday, Dec. 28, 1987 at Concord Manor Care Center in Garner were held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 31 at the United Methodist Church in Garner with Rev. Jerry Wolcott as officiant.

Mrs. Richard Johnson, organist, accompanied, soloist, Lucile Wesson. Ushers were Ben Riemer and John Humphrey.

Casket bearers were Marvin Schoneman, Maynard Schoneman, Vern Butz, James Gatchel, James Reinig, and Clarke Pollock.

Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. An American Legion Auxiliary Service and a Rebekah service were held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel Wednesday evening.

Mrs. Cella Bunkofske, the daughter of Schuyler and Dora (Davis) Bates, was born January 17, 1896 in Clay County. She attended school at Corwith, Forest City and Garner.

February 26, 1913, she was married to Theodore Bunkofske in Garner. She worked at the Garner Post Office from 1919 until she retired in the 1960's. Cella was assistant postmistress under Postmaster Lee Swaney. She had resided at Prairie View Apartments for a number of years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, U.M.W., Grandmother's Club, Charity Rebekah Loge and was a charter member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Edwin Jane Post # 5515.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Maxine Dayton and her husband, Charles, of Des Moines; her son, Raymond Bunkofske and his wife, Dorothy, of Garner; 6 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and her sister, Mrs. Hazel Vrba of Wasco, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore; her parents; a brother, Alfred Bates; and 3 sisters, Mrs. Lelia Schneider, Mrs. Lyda Martin and Mrs. Mable Tanner.
