1915-2000

Ida M. Merten of Garner died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. She was 85.

Funeral services for Mrs. Merten were held 10:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 13 at the Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner. The Rev. Roger Kallem of the United Presbyterian Church officiated. Music was provided by organist, Beverly Cataldo.

Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery. The Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Casket bearers were Eric Merten, Tim Merten, Steffen Merten, Tom Wells, Rick Wells and Larry Wells.

Ida May Merten, the daughter of Andrew and Alice (Yost) Adams, was born Aug. 10, 1915 at Fordfield, N. D. She grew up in Minnesota.

On June 6, 1934 Ida Adams was married to Clyde Merten at Monticello, Minn. The couple lived in Minnesota until moving to the Ventura and Garner area in 1940. In 1972, she moved to Mason City and then lived in towns in the surrounding area. Mrs. Merten attended the United Presbyterian Church in Garner.

Survivors include seven children, George Merten of Mason City, Raymond Merten and his wife, Ruby, of Benson, Ariz., Mary Auchampach of Charles City, Betty Wells and her husband, Roger of Sheffield, Susan Wells of Rudd, Jack Merten and his wife, Darlene, of Clinton and Nancy Fry and her husband, Ralph, of Nora Springs; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Dave Adams of Wilcox, Ariz.; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Adams, of Oroville, Wash.

Mrs. Merten was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, in July of 1974; a son, Frank Elmer Merten; her parents; a daughter-in-law, Jeanette Merten; a son-in-law, Ernest Auchampach; a grandson, Jack Merten; a granddaughter, Lisa Marie Patro; and three brothers, Ben, Raymond and Winfield Adams.
