Gertrude Richardson services conducted

Funeral services for Mrs. R.D. Richardson of Forest City were conducted Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran church. The Rev. Steven Dornbusch and the Rev. John Hieronymus officiated.

Donald Meyer was soloist accompanied by Norma Boomgarden, organist.

Casket bearers were Willard Charlson, Donald Faber, DeWayne Johnson, John Lee, Herbert Olson and Edward Reineke.

Burial was in Madison Township cemetery with the Petersen Funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Richardson, 83, died Jan. 23 at the Forest City community hospital, Jan. 12, she had suffered a stroke at her home in Forest City.

Gertrude Richardson, the daughter of Henry and Martha Johnson Lee, was born Oct. 1, 1901, in Aurora, Ill. When she was a child, her family moved to a farm near Forest City. After finishing the eighth grade, she left home to go to Goldfield to seek employment. She later returned to Forest City where she received her teaching certificate at Waldorf College.

For a few years she taught rural schools near Forest City. She was married to Russell D. Richardson Jan. 20, 1927. Mr. Richardson started Richardson Tire Shop in Forest City, a business continued by his son and grandson.

For 27 years, the Richardsons spent the winter months in Florida. Mr. Richardson died Jan. 7, 1982.

Mrs. Richardson was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church.

Survivors include a son, Delbert Richardson of Forest City; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Darlene) Batton of Emmetsburg; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Clyde Lee of Hayes Center, Neb.; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Alice Lee of Silver Springs, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Peter and Henry Lee, and great-granddaughter, Amy Steenson.
