Garner community leader dies.
Gilbert Peterson, 55

Services for Gilbert Peterson, 55, of Garner, who died Saturday evening at the Surf Ballroom at Clear Lake were held 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, at the United Methodist Church in Garner with Rev. Henry T. Hackman as officiant.

Mrs. G.W. Templeton, organist, accompanied a men's quartet composed of G.W. Templeton, Clarke Pollock, Tom Pronk, and Dr. Lowell Johnson. Ushers were Ben Riemer and John Humphrey.

Casketbearers were: Robert Nuehring, Robert Foster, Ted Hawerlander, Curtis Rasmussen, Vern Butz, and Wilbert Boeckholt.

Burial was in Crystal Township Cemetery in Crystal Lake. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Gilbert Wayne Peterson, the son of Walter E. and Julia (Hanson) Peterson was born March 14, 1925, on his parent's farm near Crystal Lake. After graduating from Crystal Lake High School, he worked for various farmers in the Crystal Lake and Manly areas. He was also employed in a woodworking plant in Wisconsin for a short time.

March 12, 1949, he married Hazel Stalheim at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. They farmed at Crystal Lake, Forest City, Fertile and Garner until 1975. In February of 1976 they opened Garner Electronics which is located on State Street in Garner.

He attended the United Methodist Church and had just finished his second consecutive year as President of the Garner Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the North Garner Community Club and the North Central Iowa Citizen's Band Radio Club.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Julie Ann) Adams of Manly; his parents, Walter and Tille Peterson of Crystal Lake; a brother James Peterson and his wife, Marlene, of Britt; a step-sister, Mrs. Andy (Ann) Larson of Buffalo Center; 2 step-brothers, John Baker and his wife, Mary, of Canoga Park, Calif., and Allen Baker and his wife, Arlene, of Forest City; and an adopted brother, Kenneth Orr and his wife Luella of Rocklin, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Julia Hanson Peterson in 1937.
