Henry Guy, Aged Veteran, Dead

Man Who Lived Thirty-five Years In Britt Was Active In Howe Post G.A.R.

Went Back to Old Home Town of Jonesville, Michigan, After Death of Wife.

Henry H. Guy, 92, has passed this life. Death came at his home in Jonesville, Michigan, Friday morning, following a stroke on Wednesday.

Henry H. Guy will be well remembered by many of our people as he was an outstanding man in farming circles in Erin and Orthel from 1887 to 1906, and after coming to town carried the mail from trains to post office and vice versa. He was a member of Howe Post G.A.R. He is the last of the men who made up the post at Britt and was active in it's work. He served during the Civil War with Co. A 152nd Indiana Infantry, having enlisted at Goshen, Indiana.

When a young man he left his native state soon after the close of the Civil war and came west to settle in Linn county Iowa. There he met and married Ella S. Far, the wedding taking place on Nov. 14, 1867. They had one daughter, the late Mrs. Jack Keel. Only living descendants are Mrs. Henry Ennen, a grand daughter and Miss May Ennen, great grand-daughter both of Britt. A brother Mark resides at Adrian, Mich.

Mr. and Mrs. Guy moved to Marshall county Iowa after their marriage, and still later to Grundy Center. They came to Hancock County in 1887 to settle on an Erin Township farm. Afterward they moved to Britt and lived for a time, then moved to a farm in Orthel Township. They retired from the farm in 1906 and moved to Britt, purchasing the home where the W. A. Swan family now resides.

It was there on January 15, 1922, that Mrs. Guy died. For a time after her death he lived with Mr. and Mrs. Keel and with the Walter Swan family, but finally removed to Jonesville, Mich. to make his home with two cousins, Misses Ella and Carrie Guy.

Funeral services in charge of the Rev. Willis Robinson, of Storm Lake, were conducted at the W. A. Swan home at 2 o'clock and at the Congregational church at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Britt Post No. 315 American Legion gave military honors and they were supported by a body of members of the Auxiliary. Business places in Britt closed at 2:30 and remained closed until after the funeral.

Those from a distance here to attend the funeral were Miss Ella Guy, Jonesville, Mich.; Mr. Will Guy of Albion, Mich; Mr. Clark Willoughby, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
