Death of Father Bingham
John G. Bingham, more familiarly known as Father Bingham, died at his home in Britt on Thursday, Jan. 3, 1907, after a lingering illness. The funeral services were held at the family home on Sunday, January 6, Rev. Hutchinson officiating. The members of the G.A.R of which the deceased was a member, attended the funeral in a body, and conducted the services at the grave.
Mr. Bingham was born in Scotten, Lincolnshire, England, April 6, 1831. He came to America in 1851, settling in Wisconsin, where he lived until 1854, when he moved to Minnesota. There he was married in 1855 to Miss Clarissa H. Huntley, who survives him, to which eight children, four daughters and four sons, were born, all living except two daughters.
Deceased was an old soldier, having served in a Minnesota regiment. His eyesight was injured during the service and for several years he has been totally blind.
Mr. Bingham was one of the early pioneers of Hancock County, having settled in Bingham township, which took his name in 1869. This county has since been his home.
