Died - At his home in Ellington, Tuesday, Aug. 28, Marion J. Abbey, aged 55 years. Funeral services were held on Thursday of last week consisting of a prayer at the house and appropriate service at Center school house, Rev. J. D. Mason officiating. The remains were interred in Ellington Cemetery.
M. J. Abbey was born in Cattaragus Co. New York and when quite young moved with his parents to Allamakee Co., Iowa, where he resided until the year 1860, when he again moved to Jackson Co., there residing until the war when he enlisted in the Thirty first Iowa Infantry Volunteers and served until mustered out Oct. 9, 1865. He was twice wounded and before his wounds were entirely healed was stricken with typhoid fever and not having proper care a complication of liver and stomach troubles resulted which never left him and from which he has suffered greatly during the past 30 years. His G.A.R. comrades of Heyden Post, Forest City attended the funeral and assisted in laying the remains of their comrade in its "windowless palace of the tomb" to await the last roll call.
