Services for Donald L. Bacon, 82, Klemme, who died at his home Thursday, Aug. 6, 1992, were held Monday, Aug. 10, 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Klemme with Rev. Laurence Garrett officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Don M. Jacobs, and vocalist, Eric Hanson.

Honorary casket bearers were members of the Klemme Lions Club.

Active bearers were David Smith, James Smith, Don Fink, Steve Bacon, David Neel, and Bruce Hanson.

Burial was at the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme, under the direction of Tenold Funeral Homes.

Donald LeRoy Bacon, the son of Marcus and Myrtle (Wilson) Bacon, was born September 1, 1909 on a farm near Iowa Falls in Hardin County. He was the second in a family of seven children. He was baptized in the Christian Church in Iowa Falls and graduated from high school there in 1928. He also attended Gates Business College in Waterloo.

June 4, 1935, he married Ethel Wellemeyer and they farmed near Woden, Thompson and Leland. When arthritis caused him to quit farming, they moved to Lake Mills where Don worked for the Farm Bureau. Later Don purchased the Wellemeyer Furniture Store from his father-in-law, Arthur Wellemeyer, and was in the business in Klemme until he retired at the age of 65. When the brick building burned, he built a new steel building on main street where PAR Products is located.

Don was a charter member of the Klemme Lions Club, served on the Klemme School Board and the town council. He was a member of the Klemme Senior Citizens Klub and KADO. He was a member of the Klemme United Methodist Church where he served as financial secretary for many years. He also served on the board of trustees.

He enjoyed working in his garden and proud that he always spaded it by hand. He loved to hunt, fish and play golf.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel of Klemme; and children, JoAnn and husband, Don M. Jacobs of Palatine, IL. and Charles and wife, Donna of Littleton, CO; four grandchildren, Barbara Jacobs Gustafson, Thomas Jacobs, Jason and Cindy Bacon; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Vern Bacon and wife, Anna Grace of Clear Lake; four sisters, Dorothy and husband, Clarence Smith of Iowa Falls, Florence and husband Clair Heifner of Clear Lake, Rosemary and husband, Merlin Isebrand of Okeechobee, FL, and Shirley and husband, Clyde Neel of Clear Lake; and one sister-in-law, Maxine Bacon of Clear Lake.
