H. P. Strandberg Relived From Pain By Death, Feb'y 12
Had Resided In Garner 45 Years; Prominent In Masonic CirclesAfter years of suffering, H. P. Strandberg was called from this world Monday night, February 22 [12], at 10:30 o'clock. For nearly two and one half years, Mr. Strandberg has been confined to his home and much of that time to his bed. He has been a patient suffered and when the death angel called, Mr. Strandberg was ready. He passed away as he had lived - quietly, peacefully.
The boyhood and young manhood days of Mr. Strandberg were spent in his native land, Sweden. On the 8th day of October, 1880, he was married to Eleanor Schook, daughter of a Swedish army officer. Before they came to America, one daughter, Alice came to bless their home. In the early days of 1889, Mr. and Mrs. Strandberg left their home in Sweden bound for America. They came direct to Hancock county, and the first three months of their residence in America was at Britt. From Britt they came to Garner and here they have resided continuously ever since. Mr. Strandberg was a shoemaker by trade, an artist in his line. For nearly 40 years he worked at his trade in Garner and not until his health *** [would] no longer permit him to be at his work bench daily, did he discontinue making and repairing shoes.
Two years ago last November, Mr. Strandberg underwent an operation for the removal of his left lower limb. Since that time he has been confined to his home.
In the year 1898 Mr. Strandberg became a member of the Masonic fraternity, and for many years was an active member in the Blue lodge, Chapter, Council, Night Templars and Eastern Star. He was one of the best posted Masons in this section of the state, and with him Masonry took on its real meaning.
October, 1933, marked the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Strandberg. The local Masonic fraternity celebrated the occasion, as did also other groups. In fact, the celebration included several gatherings of their friends.
Funeral arrangements are: A short service at the home at 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon. The Rev. C. A. Schmid, pastor of Zion Reformed church, will be in charge. At the Methodist church at 2 o'clock, a public service will be held. This will be a strictly Masonic service, but the public, of course, is welcome.
Deceased is survived by his faithful but heart broken wife, his daughter, Alice, now Mrs. Wilson of Pleasanton, Kans.; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The grandchildren are: Mrs. Dorothy Bough and Mrs. Virginia Fyock. The great grandchildren are: "Billie" Bough and Eleanor Fyock. All the grandchildren as well as the daughter, reside at Pleasanton, Kans.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery south of Garner, Thursday afternoon.

H. P. Strandberg Buried With Full Masonic Rights
A large crowd attended the H. P. Strandberg funeral Thursday afternoon of last week February 15. E. K. Green of Clear Lake conducted the Masonic ritualistic service. The Masonic male quartet consisting of C. H. Tompkins, S. C. Broms, Clint Daniels and J. R. Baggs, furnished the vocal numbers. The Rev. T. Ernest Hoon, pastor of First Methodist church, Garner officiated in prayer at both the home and church service.
Many local Woodmen attended the funeral. Mr. Strandberg had been a member of that organization for 42 years.

H. P. Strandberg, 74, Died Tuesday; Was Sick 5 Years
Funeral Services for Garner Resident to Be Held ThursdayH. P. Strandberg passed away at his home in Garner Monday after an illness extending over a period of several years. For the past two or three years he had been bedfast, and death came as a relief to his suffering.
Hakan P. Strandberg was born at Lidrip, Sweden, July 27, 1859, and would have been 75 years of age on his next birthday. He was married to Elnora Schook on October 8, 1880. One daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Strandberg, Alice Mitchell of Pleasanton, Kansas. Mrs. Strandberg and Mrs. Mitchell survive him. He also leaves two granddaughters, Mrs. Dorothy Baugh and Mrs. Virginia Fyock, and two great grandchildren, Billy Baugh and Eleanor Fyock. One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. and Mrs. Strandberg and their daughter came to the United States in June of 1889, and located at Garner. Mr. Strandberg was a boot and shoemaker by trade and operated a shop in Garner from from the time he came here until some five years ago when he was struck by an automobile and injured so that he was forced to give up his work. About two years ago one of his limbs was amputated and from this shock he never recovered his strength.
Mr. Strandberg was a member of Bethel Lodge A.F. & A.M., Bethel Chapter R.A.M., Bethel Council R. & S.M. and Relief Chapter of the Order of Estern Star of Garner, and Antioch Commandery of Mason City. He had held various offices of the local lodges for many years and also was at one time an officer of the Grand Chapter of Iowa. While High Priest of Bethel Council he had the record of the greatest increase in membership by initiation that the chapter has made in one year. He was a member of the Congregational church.
Funeral services will be held from the home Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock conducted by the Rev. C. A. Schmid, and at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock in charge of the Masonic lodge.
Mr. Strandberg was a fine gentleman. He was honest and had the respect of everyone who knew him. He worked hard and gave liberally of what he had. Since his enforced retirement he has been missed by many old friends and acquaintances.
