Services held for Mrs. Roy Schaefer
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Roy (Cora) Schaefer, 70, on Tuesday, April 28, at 2 p.m. from the United Methodist church, Klemme, with the Rev. George Brighton, Minister, officiating.
Mrs. Schaefer died on Sunday, April 26, at the Hancock County Memorial hospital, in Britt.
The vocalist were Mrs. Roy Arnold and Mrs. Russell Thorson, with the organist, Mrs. Robert Schulz. The hymns were, "How Great Thou Art," and, "The Old Rugged Cross." The pallbearers were: Bob Cavitt, Dale Brede, Roy Arnold, Maurice Trumbell, John Schwichtenberg, and Russell Thorson. Burial was made in the Klemme cemetery, Klemme. The Johnston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Born at Garner May 25, 1899, the oldest of the family of Fred and Cecelia Nesbit Gates. She was graduated from Klemme high school and was married June 6, 1917 to Roy Schaefer. They farmed west of Klemme some 25 years, and have lived in Klemme since 1941.
Surviving are her husband; four sons, Merle, Los Angeles; Eugene, Milford; Calvin, Garner; Donald, Palmdale, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. Emory (Violet) Weaver, Garner; Mrs. Dennis (Rose) Trca, Britt; Mrs. Junior (Iris) Rayhons, Mrs. Ed (Daisy) Barz, Kanawha; four sisters, Mrs. Ben Riemer, Garner; Mrs. Ben Ridder, Klemme; Mrs. Robert Martinson, Bloomington, Minn.; Mrs. Kenneth Garver, Waterloo; a brother, Lawrence Gates, Van Nuys, Calif. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One aunt survives, Mrs. Nora Latham of Prairie View Apartments.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and one grandchild.

Cora May Gates Schaefer was born at Garner, Iowa on May 25th 1899. The eldest of the family of Fred and Cecelia Nesbit Gates.
As a young girl she attended rural schools near her home, and later was graduated from the Klemme High School.
On June 6th 1917 she was united in marriage to Roy Schaefer. Together they commenced house keeping on a farm west of Klemme where they lived for twenty-four years. Eight children were born to the couple.
In 1941 they moved from the farm into their home in Klemme. She had the oppertunity to celebrate her golden wedding anniversary on June 6th 1967.
Mrs. Schaefer suffered a severe stroke in February, resulting in hospitalization. She passed away at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt on Sunday morning, April 26th. She was seventy years of age.
She had been an active member of the Methodist Church, the W.S.C.S., the Legion Auxiliary and the Grandmothers Club.
Surviving are her husband, Roy of Klemme and her eight children.

Also one Aunt, Mrs. Nora Latham of Prarie View Apts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother and one grandchild.
Pallbearers were Bob Cavitt, Dale Brede, Roy Arnold, Maurice Trumbell, John Schwichtenberg, and Russell Thorson. Officiate was Rev. George Brighton. Interment was in Klemme Cemetery, Klemme, Iowa
