Clement L. Malek
1920-2002

Clement L. Malek, 81, of Garner died Sunday, January 13, 2002, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan. The Rev. Michael Schueller officiated. Bill Malek, Jr. was the lector. Altar servers were Cody Liska and Andy Liska. Music was provided by organist, Mary Kopacek who accompanied soloist, Louise Zrostlik and the church choir. Ushers were Francis Oborny and Leo Wellik.

Casket bearers were Ed Mattes, David Malek, Gene Malek, Jerry Malek, Steve Malek and Don Malek. Honorary bearers were Jon Lee, Roger McCullough and Craig Quisling. Interment was in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery with military rites by the Britt American Legion Post #315.

Memorials may be directed to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

Clement Lambert Malek, the son of George and Antonia (Fiala) Malek, was born April 19, 1920 on a farm north of Duncan. He received his education at the Hayfield School. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in June of 1942 and served his country overseas for three years in Africa, Sicily and Europe. Clement received a silver star and two bronze stars and was discharged on October 27, 1945.

On September 24, 1946, he married Alice Ahlfs at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. They lived north of Duncan where he farmed and worked at Armour in Mason City for 18 years. In August of 2001, the couple moved into Garner.

He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Catholic Workman Branch #51 and the Britt American Legion Post #315.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Alice, of Garner; nine children, Joyce Mattes and her husband, Edward of Kalona, David Malek and his wife, Sheila of Mason City, Ruth McCullough and her husband, Roger of Fort Dodge, Gene Malek and his wife, Laurie of Mason City, Jerry Malek and his wife, Marian of Topeka, Kansas, Steve Malek of Mason City, Marcia Quisling and her husband, Craig of Forest City, Mary Lee and her husband, Jon of Clear Lake and Don Malek and his wife, Jacklyn of Garner; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Survivors also include two sisters, Bernadine Lamoreux of Mason City and Theresa Suby of Miller; a brother, Ernie Malek and his wife, Clara of Britt; a sister-in-law, Lillian Malek of Britt; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; two infant granddaughters; a brother, William Malek, Sr.; and two sisters, Agnes Wellik and Beatrice Kofron.
