Old Resident Died Easter Sunday

A. Fohrman Passed Away After Suffering From Stroke Eleven Months

Leaves Wife, Four Children and Eleven Grandchildren

August Fohrman peacefully passed away a quarter to twelve Easter Sunday at his home, after being confined to his bed since he suffered a paralytic stroke that dates back to May 23, 1923. It left him in a critical condition, his one side being totally paralyzed and has not been able to speak but a few words since. When he was taken ill, his daughter Mrs. George Hejlik and family moved in with her parents where she could assist in caring for him. He has received the best of care, all that loving hands could possibly do until his death.

Deceased was born in Pozen, Germany, August 27th, 1840, making him 83 years, 7 months and 23 days old when he died. He came to this country from Germany in 1866 and settled at Spillville, Iowa, and in 1869 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Siegel. Four children blessed this couple and are left with their mother to mourn his death. The children are: Mrs. Joe Hejlik, Britt; Mrs. Frank Nedved, Duncan; O. J. Fohrman, Britt; Jacob F. Fohrman, Brook Park, Minnesota. There are eleven grandchildren.

The young couple resided at Spillville for eleven years, moving from there to Calmar, Iowa, where they made their home eight years and from there to Manly, Iowa, where they lived five years, and in 1892 they purchased the farm where Fred Kahlstorf now resided, where they lived until 1918 when they sold out and moved to Britt.

Deceased was a carpenter and cabinet maker by trade. Some 45 years ago when furniture and undertaking business places were very few Mr. Fohrman made furniture of all kinds to sell. He has made numerous coffins. When people died he was called to take measurements for the coffin. Mrs. Fohrman says many a night the two have worked late into the night in order to get the caskets done. Mrs. Fohrman would line the caskets.

The funeral was held at St. Patrick's church at Britt Tuesday morning at nine o'clock. High Mass was conducted by Father J. P. Quirin. The remains were laid to rest in the Duncan St. John's cemetery.

Mr. Fohrman was a man with wide acquaintances and every acquaintance was a friend, for his genial personality and kind disposition won everyone to him. May he rest in peace.
